String of Frogs (Ficus pumila 'Quercifolia') | 4” Pot
A Whimsical Trail of Green with Southern Charm
At Wrights Market, tucked inside our 1938 cottage where sweet tea is poured with two hands and the screen door’s always swinging, we adore the plants that bring personality and playfulness into our spaces. The String of Frogs, with its trailing vines and tiny leaves shaped like little frog feet, is one of those joyful green friends that sparks smiles and stories wherever it grows.
Also known as Ficus pumila 'Quercifolia', this dainty vine is a charming variation of the traditional creeping fig, native to East Asia. It gets its nickname from the adorable shape of its leaves—tiny, lobed, and full of character, like a little string of frogs leaping along a vine. While it’s not technically a succulent, it shares a lot of the same carefree qualities we love: low-maintenance, fast-growing, and full of personality.
This sweet plant thrives in bright, indirect light, but can handle a little lower light too—making it a perfect choice for bookshelves, hanging baskets, or a trailing touch on your kitchen windowsill. With the right conditions and time, it may produce tiny, inconspicuous flowers, but it’s the leaves that steal the show here.
Symbolically, the String of Frogs represents joy, playfulness, and curiosity—a reminder not to take life too seriously, to grow where you're planted, and to hop toward what brings you happiness.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is best; can tolerate some shade
-
Water: Keep soil lightly moist; allow the top inch to dry out between waterings
-
Humidity: Enjoys moderate humidity—perfect for bathrooms or near the kitchen sink
-
Soil: Well-draining potting mix (standard houseplant blend works fine)
-
Toxicity: Mildly toxic to pets if ingested
Perfect Pairings:
-

Let your String of Frogs trail down from a hanging pot on the front porch, cascade across a shelf in your sunroom, or spill sweetly over the edge of a vintage planter in your cottage kitchen. Wherever she grows, she brings a bit of wonder and warmth—just like the best parts of Southern living.
From our home to yours, may this little vine bring joy, play, and a touch of green whimsy into every cozy corner.
