Queen Palm | 5–5.5 ft Tall
Southern Grace with Tropical Grandeur – A Regal Touch for Your Garden or Gathering Place

Here at Wrights Market, tucked inside our lovingly worn 1938 cottage, we believe every plant should feel like home—warm, welcoming, and full of life. The Queen Palm (Syagrus romanzoffiana) is just that: tall and elegant, yet easygoing, with swaying fronds that echo the rhythm of a summer breeze and a stature that adds a touch of the tropics to your own little slice of the South.

Native to South America and named for its royal presence, the Queen Palm has long been admired in warm climates for its graceful, feather-like fronds and quick-growing, low-maintenance nature. It’s a favorite for lining driveways, framing porches, or serving as a breezy backdrop to family gatherings—bringing an easy island charm without asking for much in return.

While it doesn’t bloom in a showy way like a flowering shrub, the Queen Palm produces tiny cream-colored flowers in mid to late summer, followed by small orange fruit that attracts birds and gives it a bit of seasonal interest.

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Thrives in full sun—the more sunshine, the happier it grows

  • Water: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots; drought-tolerant once mature

  • Soil: Prefers well-draining, slightly acidic soil; amend with compost if planting in heavy clay

  • Fertilizer: Feed seasonally with palm fertilizer rich in magnesium and potassium

  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 9–11; protect from hard frost

  • Maintenance: Low—just remove older fronds at the base as they age

  • Growth Habit: Tall and upright, can reach 40–50’ in the ground, but easy to maintain smaller in pots

Perfect Pairings for a Peaceful Porch or Tropical Retreat:

  • Bird of Paradise – for a bold, flowering accent nearby

  • Lantana or Pentas – sun-loving pollinator plants that bring bursts of color

  • Agapanthus or Blue Daze – soft, flowing blues to contrast the palm’s upright fronds

  • Boxwood or Croton – formal or colorful companions that add structure and charm

Our Queen Palm is more than just a plant—it’s a statement of hospitality, warmth, and timeless beauty, perfect for welcoming guests or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon under its shade. From our family here at Wrights Market, we hope this elegant palm brings a little peace, tropical flair, and Southern ease into your garden story.
