  • Foliage: Dense evergreen greenery

  • Light Requirements: Full sun—at least 6 hours daily

Garden Heritage & Style

Junipers have long been treasured for evergreen structure in ornamental gardens. The traditional two-ball topiary form brings a sense of balance and thoughtful care—just right for a welcoming Southern entrance or cottage-inspired courtyard.

How to Care for Your Hetz Juniper

Sunlight: Place outdoors in full sun with good air circulation. Allow space around both foliage balls so sunlight reaches them evenly.

Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly while roots become established. Allow the upper soil to begin drying between waterings. Container-grown topiaries need frequent moisture checks during hot weather. Avoid standing water and consistently wet roots.

Soil & Drainage: Choose well-drained garden soil or a quality outdoor container mix. Always use a planter with drainage holes.

Pruning: Lightly trim new green growth in spring and early summer to maintain the two rounded tiers. Remove unwanted shoots along the exposed trunk and between the balls. Avoid cutting into bare, older wood, which generally does not fill back in readily.

Fertilizing: If needed, apply a slow-release fertilizer labeled for evergreen shrubs in spring, following package directions. Avoid excessive feeding.

Container Care: Repot as roots fill the container. Adequate root space and consistent watering help keep the foliage healthy. Protect container roots during unusually severe freezes.

Mulching: For landscape plantings, apply mulch around the root zone, keeping it several inches away from the trunk.

Pet Safety & Handling

Do not consider this juniper confirmed pet-safe. Junipers other than common juniper are listed as potentially harmful if eaten and may cause skin irritation. Keep pets from chewing foliage, stems, or berry-like cones, and remove pruning clippings promptly.

If your pet ingests the plant or develops symptoms, contact your veterinarian. Wear gloves when trimming if you have sensitive skin.

Beautiful Garden Companions

Pair with white snapdragons for cool-season color, low-growing abelia for contrasting foliage, or ornamental grasses for gentle movement. Keep surrounding plants clear of the lower foliage ball for airflow and easy shaping.

Each topiary is naturally unique. Height, ball diameter, spacing, and fullness will vary. The 7-gallon designation refers to the nursery container size.

A thoughtful touch of greenery, with a warm welcome from Wright’s Market.
