Unique, tropical, and full of natural beauty! The Elephant Staghorn Fern, also known as the Elephant Ear Staghorn Fern, is a stunning tropical plant loved for its oversized, velvety green fronds that resemble the graceful ears of an elephant. Its dramatic foliage and unusual growth habit create a beautiful statement that brings an instant touch of the tropics to any space!

Displayed in a charming crate-style planter, this gorgeous fern offers a unique, natural look that's perfect for hanging displays, covered porches, sunrooms, or bright indoor spaces. Unlike traditional ferns, Staghorn Ferns naturally grow attached to trees in tropical environments, making them a fascinating addition to any plant collection!

🌿 Plant Care Instructions

  • ☀️ Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or filtered light. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch its delicate fronds.

  • 💧 Water: Water thoroughly when the growing medium begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain completely. Keep moderately moist during active growth in warmer months, but significantly reduce watering during its natural cool-season resting period. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.

  • 🌡️ Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 65–85°F. Protect from freezing temperatures, cold drafts, and prolonged cold, damp conditions.

  • 💦 Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity! A humidifier or naturally humid environment helps maintain healthy foliage. Good airflow is also important.

  • 🪴 Growing Medium: Prefers a loose, airy mixture such as sphagnum moss and orchid bark. Avoid dense, waterlogged potting soil.

  • 🌱 Fertilizer: Feed lightly with a diluted, balanced fertilizer during active growth in spring and summer. Reduce or discontinue feeding during its resting period.

  • ✂️ Pruning: Remove completely dead or damaged foliage as needed. Avoid removing the protective shield fronds, even when they naturally turn brown, as these help support the plant.

  • 🌿 Crate Care: Ensure the crate allows proper drainage and airflow. Water the growing medium thoroughly, allow excess moisture to drain, and avoid leaving the crate sitting in standing water.

🐾 Pet Toxicity

Generally Considered Pet Friendly! Staghorn Ferns are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. While common Staghorn Fern species are listed as non-toxic by the ASPCA, species-specific information for the Elephant Staghorn Fern is limited.

Although not known to be poisonous, eating plant material may still cause mild digestive upset. Keep curious pets from chewing the foliage or crate materials.
