Aloe ‘Safari Rose’
A burst of color and calm—designed by nature, loved in the South

At Wrights Market, nestled in our little 1938 cottage where time slows down and kindness grows like wildflowers, we love a plant that brings both beauty and purpose. Aloe ‘Safari Rose’ is one of those treasures—a tough, sun-loving succulent with delicate charm and a generous heart.

Part of the Safari series, bred for vibrant blooms and compact form, ‘Safari Rose’ is native to the arid regions of South Africa, but it's made itself right at home in warm-climate gardens across the South. With its rosy-pink flower spikes, clean green foliage, and long blooming season, it brings cheer and color without fuss.

Where it grows best:
Perfect for USDA zones 9–11 outdoors, but happy in containers or pots year-round anywhere with plenty of sun. It thrives in full sun, loves well-drained or sandy soil, and is ideal for rock gardens, cottage-style plantings, porches, or sunny patios. If you’re outside its hardiness zone, it overwinters beautifully indoors with bright light.

What it means:
Aloes have long symbolized healing, renewal, and quiet strength—and ‘Safari Rose’ reminds us that even the most resilient things in life can still bloom beautifully. It's a plant that carries both grace and grit—just like the Southern women who taught us to garden with one hand and cook supper with the other.

Bloom time:
‘Safari Rose’ blooms generously from late fall into early spring, sending up spires of soft pink, coral, and salmon-colored flowers that stand tall above its rosette of fleshy leaves. These blooms are beloved by hummingbirds and pollinators, adding movement and joy to the winter garden.

Care instructions:

  • Sunlight: Full sun to bright indoor light

  • Soil: Well-drained, sandy or gritty soil

  • Water: Low water needs; water deeply but infrequently

  • Fertilizer: Light feeding in spring and summer with a cactus-friendly blend

  • Note: Protect from frost or bring indoors if temperatures dip below 25°F

Once established, ‘Safari Rose’ is drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and a beautiful evergreen succulent that brings life and color when the rest of the garden rests.

Pairs beautifully with:
In containers or garden beds, pair ‘Safari Rose’ with sedums, echeverias, or agaves for a textural, water-wise planting. Soften its structure with lavender, gaura, or salvia, or mix with ornamental grasses and calibrachoa for a blend of cottage charm and desert ease. It also plays well with terra cotta pots, vintage containers, or tucked beside your favorite garden bench.
